The Power of Persuasion...Time to Shop!

Think of a time when you were persuaded to buy something.  What persuaded you to do this?  Was there a particular argument, fact, or strategy used by the advertising team that made the item more appealing to you? Why?  Discuss.  Feel free to make appropriate commentary on other posts.

  2. I was persuaded by Dell on TV. The commercial said when you buy a Dell laptop you get a free Xbox 360. I think this is persuading because you get a free Xbox 360 which is worth $200 at stores. I think this was a strategy they used so more people would buy their laptops. It made it look like a good deal.

  3. I was persuaded to adopt an animal from the SPCA shelter because the commercial showed hurt animals that were rescued. It said hundreds of animals die every year because of animal abuse. This is persuading people to help an animal by donating money or adopting an animal in need.

  4. I was persuaded to buy Reezigs the shoes online after watching the commercials on all the athletes who where them. They looked really cool but when i got them they fell apart right away. They were absolutely overpriced and i will never make that mistake again. In the commercials they made the colors shine and it was really cool and sort of caught my eye.

  6. I was persuaded to get HYperenforcer basketball shoes because it said these shoes are great for basketball athletes. Also, they say they are really lightweight which persuaded me to buy them. Also, they can be bought for a good price. This sounds like a really good shoe.

Something I bought was a book called Weird But True. I was persuaded to do this because on the back of the book it described how once I read it I would become smart and have random knowledge at my disposal. This made the book more appealing because I want to be smarter.
    (P.S. the book worked ;D)

  9. I was persuaded to buy new furniture for my room. There was a lot of separate pieces, but the I think it's so popular because it was being sold for a low price and it has good quality. Also it was from a well known store.

  10. I was persuaded by on T.V. I saw a commercial that was about Reebok Realflex. When I saw all of these AMAZING athletes wearing these shoes I already knew that I had to buy them. The cool part about Realflex is that they can bend and twist in any direction. And they have a lot of support for your feet. You can be comfortable and run in the same exact shoes. That is why I was so persuaded to buy these brand new shoes.

  11. I was persuaded to buy the iPad because the commercials show such amazing things. It always stated it was better than the first iPad. It also showed a lot of people that helped make and they said they loved it. So it persuaded me to buy it.

One time I was persuaded to buy something was when I saw the character traits and pictures of ragdoll kittens. They looked so cute and fluffy like you just had to hug them. Also, it said that they were now of the nicest and playful cats you can get. Unlike most cats, they don't mature until 4 or 5 years old! That is good because then you have more time to play with them. That's why I was so into getting them.

Once I was persuaded when I saw this commercial on rubber glue and that I thought would be useful. In the commercial there was a boat test where there should have been a floor there a window. I was also used in some places in the house. (I can't remember the whole commercial very well.) I told my dad about it and he said that there is probably something about it that's a big disadvantage. (by the way he buys almost nothing on TV).

I was persuaded to get the iPad 3. The video about the iPad 3 said that the tiny screen was better than an HD TV in terms of pixels, and that meant the images would be smoother on it. It also has an amazing camera that I could use for making iMovies or Photo Booths. I also knew that if I got the iPad 3 I could use it for school and play and my mom and dad would let me use it.

  15. I was persuaded to get Kidz Bop 19 (I was like 10) because it had so many popular songs on the CD at the time. I really like listening to pop music, and sometimes my mom will make me turn it off because the song could be inappropriate, and with Kidz Bop, they make the song appropriate so that kids can listen. Its a win win situation for my mom and I!

  16. I am watching TV when the commercial to visit Disney world came on. Just watching the family walk around the various parks and getting on all the rides made it appear exciting. I knew that I to wanted to visit the place where all your dreams come true, just like the commercial said. I persuaded my parents to go visit the most magical place on earth. Surprisingly they took me to Disney World and just like the commercial said dreams do come true. We were the family having fun at all the parks and going on all the rides.

  17. I was watching the tv one morning and I saw that there was a knew show on called Backugan. It seemed really dumb at first, then I went to school and realized that everyone had the toy version of Backugan which is a ball with a magnet on the bottom. When you put the magnet part on metal, it transformed from ball to dragon or another fantasy creature. Everyone was trading them and battling with them. Eventually that led to someone giving me one for free!!!! Which lead to me buying more and getting more for Christmas. They were persuasive buy making a show about the toy.

  18. I was just sitting on my couch when I saw a commercial. Usually I just ignore the commercials but this one was different. It totally sold me, there was a normal looking guy holding an ordinary towel, or that’s what I thought it was. Sham wow he said and showed us multiple happy customers holding their sham wows cleaning simulations with ease. Now I don’t really need one but the way he said it made me want one. He was just so enthusiastic. I still see the commercial and I still want one but now I know why, he is so successful, he used persuasive writing just like we are using in class.

  19. I was persuaded to buy the brownie pan with the separator thing. I have experience with trying to cut brownies so I thought that the pan would work. Instead of having to cut the brownies yourself they are already cut. But, after I used it my brownies were as hard as a rock! You couldn't bite into them without heating them up in the microwave. It was a bad choice and I will never use the pan again.

  20. As Thomas said, the sham wow guy got me too. He was so enthusiastic about it and he said it could sop up anything and everything. Those guys must have a lot of money for for a stupid towel. But they are very persuasive in the commercial. The guy makes you listen to satisfied customers and they tell you how amazing the sham wow is. Wait to persuade sham wow guy!

  21. A time I got persuaded to buy something was when my softball teammates persuaded me and my parents to get a new softball bag. I just got a new softball bag before joining the team, but I got persuaded real easily and so did my parents! The things that persuaded me was that one, pretty much everyone else had that bag. Another reason, was that, it had really good features and was suppose to be a really good quality bag. They chose really good words to use when convincing me too get that bag, and I ended u getting it :)

  22. Last year, in school, Tommy Scinto persuaded me to buy Halo Reach. Every day for almost the entire year he talked about what he was doing the day before and he always mentioned Halo. He told me that he thought I would really enjoy it because it has much better graphics and he also knew that I liked all of the earlier versions. Now I understand why he thought it was so great.
